Your choices and keeping us up to date

We will only contact you with information that we believe is relevant to you and you can choose to opt out of receiving information from us at any time.

This may mean you do not receive the services and opportunities that may be of interest to you, such as information about networking and other events, alumni services and benefits, volunteering and other student experience, graduate and research opportunities.

There are some donation communications that we are required to send regardless of your contact preferences. This would include Direct Debit confirmations and advanced notices, thank you letters, renewal reminders, Gift Aid confirmation letters and querying returned mail or bounced or declined payments with you.

In cases where you have given us consent to process your data for receiving fundraising requests by email or text, you can withdraw this at any time via the options detailed below.

We would really appreciate it if you let us know if your contact details change.

  • If you are a member of the University’s alumni community, you can change your contact details or preferences at any time via the Alumni Portal or by contacting us at yourdata@ed.ac.uk.

Access the Alumni Portal

  • If you are a non-alumni individual, you can change your contact details or preferences at any time by contacting us at  yourdata@ed.ac.uk.

If you would like to opt out of research, profiling or wealth screening, please contact us at yourdata@ed.ac.uk.

Alternatively, you can write to us at Development and Alumni, The University of Edinburgh, Charles Stewart House, 9-16 Chambers Street, Edinburgh, EH1 1HT, or call us on +44 (0) 131 650 2240.

Your rights

You have the right to request access to, copies of and rectification or (in some cases) erasure of personal data held by the University and can request that we restrict processing or object to processing as well as (in some cases) the right to data portability (i.e. the right to ask us to put your data into a format that it can be transferred easily to a different organisation). If you wish to make use of one of these rights, please email yourdata@ed.ac.uk.
